Job Description
The Space Systems Engineer will support daily satellite operations by developing and maintaining software, analyzing data, troubleshooting anomalies, and deploying updates to optimize the performance of Planet's Earth Observation satellite constellation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize the health and productivity of the satellite constellation
- Develop, test, and deploy software for satellite operations, including on-orbit experiments and software upgrades
- Support daily satellite operations by analyzing data, troubleshooting anomalies, and conducting fleet checks
- Create scripts and tools to aggregate satellite data and generate system monitoring metrics
- Analyze operational data to identify issues and propose solutions
- Develop and maintain operational procedures for satellite missions
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to improve satellite performance and shape operational strategies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant work experience in software development or related fields
- Experience in software development, particularly in Python or similar languages
- Familiarity with the space environment and its challenges
- Data-driven mindset with experience in statistical analysis
- Proactive approach to engineering and problem-solving
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills within a technical team
- This position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Salary range of $115,800 - $142,700 USD (dependent on experience, skills, location)
