Job Description
The role involves developing and maintaining real-time software solutions to optimize the operations and productivity of Planet's satellite constellation, working closely with hardware and software teams to improve fleet efficiency and support Earth observation missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize the health and productivity of the satellite constellation
- Develop and maintain real-time, mission-critical software for satellite operations
- Create scripts to aggregate satellite data and generate system monitoring metrics
- Analyze data to identify issues and inefficiencies in services and propose improvements
- Drive enhancements to fleet capacity and productivity through process improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or Computer Science
- Experience in software development, particularly in Python or equivalent languages
- Data-driven mindset with experience in statistical analysis
- Proactive, self-starter approach to engineering and problem-solving
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills within a technical team
- This position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Salary range: $43.36 - $54.18 USD per hour (specific to San Francisco)
