Job Description
The Engineering Program Manager at Planet is responsible for leading satellite development programs, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing technical and logistical challenges, and ensuring timely delivery of hardware projects in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead satellite development programs from planning through launch, ensuring timely execution of all program phases.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets, monitoring performance and making real-time adjustments.
- Manage the execution of technical plans internally and with external suppliers, including project definition and budgeting.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to manage deliverables, technical plans, and program milestones.
- Act as the first point of contact for technical issues, triaging, prioritizing, and driving issues to resolution.
- Coordinate with engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders to drive project productivity and progress.
- Manage program risks, develop mitigation plans, and address blocking issues to stay on schedule.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in a technically relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace.
- 6 years of relevant experience in Engineering Program Management or Engineering Management.
- Experience managing concurrent, fast-paced hardware projects with non-negotiable deadlines.
- A roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and willingness to solve problems in the lab or on the factory floor.
- Experience in an engineering project management role for the development of hardware systems in a cross-functional, cross-organizational context.
- Experience working with and managing external partners, suppliers, vendors, and customers to drive program success.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation skills, especially in high-stakes technical trade-off discussions.
- Exceptional ability to stay organized and prioritize in a high-pressure, ambiguous, and rapidly changing environment.
- Application of export-controlled information access requirements, with the ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
