The Senior Counsel, Policy will develop and implement legal strategies related to regulatory and policy matters in renewable energy and energy storage, providing guidance and managing regulatory proceedings to support the company's growth and compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Create, implement, and maintain the company's legal strategy related to policy, regulatory, and energy storage matters.
Provide regulatory guidance to the policy and energy storage teams and across development, finance, and operations functions.
Lead legal analysis and strategy on federal, state, and local regulatory issues affecting renewable energy and energy storage projects.
Manage engagement in regulatory proceedings, including filing interventions, discovery, and testimony.
Coordinate with the policy team and manage outside counsel supporting regulatory matters.
Translate complex regulatory regimes into practical business guidance.
Requirements
Experience in creating, implementing, driving, and maintaining legal priorities and strategy related to policy, regulatory, and energy storage matters.
Ability to serve as the primary legal partner to policy and energy storage teams and provide regulatory guidance across development, finance, and operations functions.
Legal analysis and strategy experience related to federal, state, and local regulatory matters affecting renewable energy and energy storage projects, including market participation, interconnection, permitting, procurement programs, and evolving policy frameworks.
Experience managing engagement in regulatory proceedings, including filing interventions, discovery, and testimony, in close coordination with policy teams.
Experience managing outside counsel supporting regulatory matters and providing broader in-house legal support and special projects as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer.
Comfort operating in ambiguity and translating complex regulatory regimes into practical business guidance.
Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when supporting complex internal legal, operational, and people-related matters.
Strong foundation in regulatory and policy work, with openness to training the right candidate.
Ability to work collaboratively, demonstrating honesty, kindness, thoughtfulness, and integrity in interactions with others.
Based in Denver, CO, with the ability and willingness to work from the office on a hybrid schedule.
