Job Description
The Tax Manager, Compliance and Planning, is responsible for leading the company's federal and state tax compliance and strategic planning for renewable energy projects, ensuring proper certification of tax credits, reducing recapture risk, and collaborating with internal teams and external advisors to optimize tax benefits and project structuring.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead federal and state tax compliance and strategic planning for renewable energy assets.
- Serve as the internal control gatekeeper for project-level federal tax credit compliance.
- Review, validate, and certify federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) eligibility and documentation integrity.
- Collaborate with legal, finance, development, engineering, procurement, construction, and external advisors to ensure proper project structuring and documentation.
- Reduce recapture risk and support investor-grade tax compliance standards.
Requirements
- Experience in leading federal and state tax compliance and strategic planning for renewable energy assets, specifically solar and energy storage projects.
- Ability to serve as the internal control gatekeeper for project-level federal tax credit compliance across a portfolio of solar and storage projects.
- Proven experience in granular review, validation, and formal certification of federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) eligibility and documentation integrity before financial closings and tax preparation.
- Expertise as a subject-matter expert on Tax Compliance, planning, ITC eligibility, adders, and substantiation related to renewable energy projects.
- Experience working closely with Legal, Finance, Development, Engineering, Procurement, Construction teams, and external advisors to ensure projects are structured, documented, and executed to preserve tax credit value and support financing.
- Ability to materially reduce recapture risk and support investor-grade compliance standards in tax credit documentation and project structuring.
