Job Description
The Director of Project Development will lead the execution of solar and energy storage projects in urban and commercial settings, managing site diligence, permitting, stakeholder engagement, and project handoffs to ensure efficient project progression from contract to construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of solar and energy storage projects in urban, commercial, and infrastructure-adjacent settings.
- Manage post-contract development scope, including site diligence, zoning approval, discretionary permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate technical, permitting, interconnection, and site use documentation activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects progress from contract to construction readiness.
- Lead site diligence and permitting efforts for renewable energy facilities and battery energy storage systems.
- Navigate complex jurisdictional environments to secure permits and approvals.
Requirements
- Experience leading the execution of solar and solar energy storage projects located in urban, commercial, and infrastructure-adjacent settings.
- Ability to serve as the dedicated owner of post-contract development execution for built-environment projects across all origination teams.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort navigating complex jurisdictional environments often with ambiguous or non-existent paths to permits approvals.
- Experience managing multiple high-touch projects with clear communication and attention to detail.
- Responsibility for managing client coordination, permitting strategy, interconnection, discretionary approvals, site use documentation, consultant coordination, and internal handoffs.
- Experience leading site diligence and permitting for renewable energy generation facilities and major capital development projects, including battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Ability to take over primary responsibility for PD-E scope following contract or LOI signature.
- Experience working closely with internal teams including CCES, Engineering, Preconstruction, Project Management, Legal Title, and Structured Finance, as well as external stakeholders such as site building owners, permitting authorities, and vendors.
- Ability to manage the full development scope including site diligence, zoning approval, discretionary permitting, technical coordination, and stakeholder engagement within PD-E’s specialized processes.
- Experience reflecting Pivot’s growing investment in storage expertise, specifically in battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and contribute to scaling built-environment projects.
- Educational background or experience relevant to renewable energy project development (implied, as the posting emphasizes experience and skills).
