Job Description
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) at Phoenix Contact acts as a technical liaison, providing expert support in electronic and automation product applications, developing solutions for customers, supporting sales efforts, and promoting company offerings through technical consultation, training, and industry engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities through technical consultation and solution development.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support, including product demonstrations, application guidance, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and deliver technical training to internal teams, channel partners, and customers.
- Support product integration into customer applications through system design, configuration, and validation.
- Create and contribute to technical documentation, application notes, and white papers.
- Promote solutions and build brand awareness through trade shows, webinars, and customer events.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering to provide market feedback and influence product development.
- Manage customer interactions, project status, and technical issues using CRM and support tools.
- Develop and train channel partners and sales teams on product value propositions and sales techniques.
- Maintain technical competence on all products within the area of focus.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Engineering or related technical field (preferred).
- 5-7 years of experience in a technical support, application engineering, or field engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation, control systems, or electronic components.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to support customer engagements and field activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Phoenix Contact’s business solutions.
- Superior computer skills and proficiency in Windows-based applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Polished presentation skills.
- Record of achievement in exceeding sales performance expectations.
- Strong business development skills, including exceeding expectations of sales calls and opportunity creation.
- Experience working with distributors (preferred).
- Must be able to travel via airplane.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate an automobile for up to six hours at a time.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs (samples, demos, literature).
- Must be able to travel overnight up to 35 nights or as dictated by the assigned territory.
- Ability to comply with company dress code guidelines.
- Must maintain regular and on-time attendance.
