Job Description

The Technical Director will lead engineering, project delivery, and operations for renewable energy projects, primarily solar, in the Philippines, ensuring technical excellence, safety, and project success from development through asset lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering activities, enforce technical standards, and optimize design for solar PV, transmission lines, and substations.
  • Oversee construction, commissioning, and project delivery, managing schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Act as a technical advisor during project development, providing input on feasibility, design, and grid connection.
  • Manage technical evaluations, contract negotiations, and oversight of EPC tenders and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, and implement QA/QC processes.
  • Lead and mentor the technical team, fostering development and ensuring alignment with regional objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in renewable energy with proven experience in solar PV, transmission lines, substations, and battery storage.
  • Track record of delivering at least 200 MW of renewable projects.
  • Ability to implement project controls, reporting systems, and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for reporting and analysis.
  • Experience in overseeing the engineering, project delivery, and operation and maintenance of renewable energy assets from project development to end of asset lifecycle.
  • Experience managing a technical team of up to 10 professionals.
  • Ability to enforce standard technical specifications for solar PV, transmission lines, and substations, and apply value engineering principles to optimize cost, performance, and sustainability.
  • Experience driving creative problem-solving and innovative design approaches for complex technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of integrating latest technologies and best practices in renewable energy systems.
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation internally and externally.
  • Experience coordinating grid interconnection studies and ensuring compliance with local utility requirements.
  • Experience overseeing construction and commissioning of solar PV plants, transmission lines, and substations, including managing project schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing advanced project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent for planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Experience developing and implementing comprehensive Operations & Maintenance (O M) strategies for utility-scale and distributed generation assets.
  • Ability to establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs, monitor plant performance using SCADA and advanced analytics, and proactively resolve technical issues.
  • Experience managing spare parts inventory, warranties, and vendor relationships to minimize downtime.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce O M costs and improve reliability.
  • Experience acting as a technical advisor during early-stage project development, providing technical input for proposals, system design, grid connection, and cost estimates.
  • Ability to collaborate with project teams during early-stage development, participate in customer meetings, and explain technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting M A activities by evaluating technical aspects of target assets, including plant performance, grid compliance, and O M requirements.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical reports and recommendations for investment committees during acquisition processes.
  • Ability to develop and enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards across all projects, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Experience implementing robust Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes during design, construction, and operations.
  • Proven leadership skills to act as a senior leader, build and mentor a high-performing technical team, and lead career development initiatives.
  • Experience managing recruitment and hiring for technical roles, providing regular feedback and guidance.
  • Ability to provide strategic direction aligned with regional objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of FIDIC and other international contract forms for technical evaluation, contract negotiation, and management of EPC tenders.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites within the Philippines.
  • Fluent in English.
