Job Description
A Senior Mechatronics Engineer, Marine Operations, responsible for designing, testing, and supporting control systems and automated equipment for offshore energy deployment and maintenance in a renewable ocean technology company.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test bespoke support equipment for automated deployment, retrieval, inspection, and maintenance of offshore assets.
- Develop and commission control systems for automating offshore equipment operations.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers to design and test automated mechanisms used offshore.
- Program, commission, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
- Design electrical control systems, including schematics, wiring, instrumentation cabling, and communication networks.
- Design weatherproof enclosures, cabling, and bulkheads for offshore electronics.
- Oversee fabrication, testing, and commissioning of new control systems.
- Support offshore operations through initial commissioning and sustaining engineering of control systems.
Requirements
- BS or higher in mechatronics, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience owning the development of novel control systems from concept through commissioning.
- Proficiency in PLC programming.
- Hands-on experience with wiring, terminations, and troubleshooting electrical control systems.
- Experience with programming or scripting in Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong understanding of weather waterproofing techniques for electronics.
- Understanding of NEC, UL508A, and NFPA79 compliance standards.
- Capable of managing critical vendor relationships.
- Thrive in a culture of personal ownership.
- Ability to travel to vendors and test sites as needed.
- Intermittently able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs.
- Ability to travel offshore periodically to support initial commissioning and first use of new equipment.
