Job Description

The Director of Construction leads and manages the company's construction operations for renewable energy projects, overseeing project execution, safety, quality, and team development to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality project delivery in a fast-paced, urban environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the field execution strategy for construction projects from pre-construction to closeout.
  • Lead and scale the construction team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting performance objectives.
  • Establish and enforce safety programs and standards across all construction sites.
  • Standardize and optimize field execution processes, workflows, and quality control procedures.
  • Manage all on-site activities, including schedule, safety, quality, and contractor performance.
  • Oversee project budgets, change orders, and financial reporting for construction projects.
  • Coordinate with pre-construction and development teams to ensure seamless project transitions and constructability.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and stakeholders, including landowners and utilities.
  • Monitor and improve project management tools and reporting systems.
  • Identify lessons learned and implement process improvements for construction operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in construction management, with a significant focus on managing complex electrical or power generation projects.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a direct leadership role, with a proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing project management team.
  • Extensive experience managing active construction sites, with deep knowledge of construction means and methods, coordination, budget management, and quality control.
  • Proven ability to drive and manage complex construction schedules, coordinating multiple stakeholders including utilities, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), equipment vendors, and contractors to meet critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing relationships with vendors and contractors, with proven expertise in managing construction contracts and rigorously managing the change order process.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and enforcing comprehensive safety programs (EHS) on complex industrial or commercial construction projects.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience developing and managing multi-million dollar construction budgets, including forecasting and change order management.
  • Proficiency in advanced scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, and construction project management platforms such as Procore and Kahua.
  • Experience managing construction within dense and complex urban regulatory environments, such as New York City or similar markets.
  • Ability to develop and implement field execution strategies, standardize processes, and establish workflows for quality control, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and scale a team of Construction Project Managers and Assistant Construction Managers, including setting objectives and KPIs.
  • Ability to develop, oversee, and enforce a safety program to ensure the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance across all sites.
  • Experience managing construction budgets, including approving Change Orders, submitting monthly cash flow forecasts, and consolidating GC payment applications.
  • Ability to oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of project management and field reporting tools such as Procore and Kahua.
  • Experience in managing relationships with major electrical contractors, equipment manufacturers, and vendors, especially in the renewable energy or power generation sectors, particularly with medium voltage power systems, grid interconnection, or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Experience managing projects under large-scale Master Service Agreements (MSAs) or other alternative contracting models in addition to standard GC agreements.
  • Ability to act as the primary escalation point for construction-related issues and risks, providing senior guidance to resolve roadblocks.
  • Deep understanding of construction means and methods, coordination, and quality control for electrical or power generation projects.
  • Ability to forecast resource needs accurately and assign construction management teams to projects as they are approved.
  • Commitment to building a safety culture and developing safety programs that meet regulatory standards.
  • Willingness to work full-time in-office at Brooklyn, NY headquarters, with regular travel to project sites within the NYC area.
