Job Description

The Civil Project Engineer is responsible for designing and managing civil engineering aspects of utility-scale and distributed solar energy facilities, including site grading, stormwater management, and permitting, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project compliance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design site civil features for large-scale solar facilities, including grading, access roads, and support structures.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to optimize array layouts considering site constraints.
  • Prepare and maintain construction plans, AutoCAD templates, and standards.
  • Review geotechnical and wetland reports to support cost-effective solar project deployment.
  • Develop cut-fill plans and quantities to ensure proper foundation design and material optimization.
  • Manage stormwater pollution prevention plans, erosion, and dust control measures for projects.
  • Interpret and explain project documentation to ensure compliance with permits and site requirements.
  • Research and recommend solutions to meet DOT, utility, stormwater, and erosion control requirements.
  • Support project design reviews and prepare materials for investment committee presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of Civil Engineering experience.
  • EIT Certification with a preference for candidates who are pursuing a Professional Engineering license.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD.
  • Experience with Google Earth or other mapping GIS tools, as well as the use of online and public resources such as federal, state, and county databases.
  • Ability to perform site grading and drainage calculations, prepare plans, conduct site hydrology calculations, and develop draft reports for review before final submittals.
  • Must have an active driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and be able to travel frequently, up to 1-2 weeks per month or about 20% of working time, to access sites of varying terrain.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation range of $90,000 - $120,000 depending on location and experience
