Job Description
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing operational accounting activities related to solar project assets, project and debt accounting, intercompany transactions, and supporting monthly closes and audits, all while improving processes and collaborating across teams in a fast-growing renewable energy company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inventory accounting related to solar project assets and participate in inventory systems development.
- Execute project accounting activities, including journal entries, expense accruals, and capitalized labor.
- Ensure debt and equity are recorded accurately per GAAP and partnership agreements.
- Manage intercompany transactions and eliminations in accordance with company policies.
- Lead the monthly close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and issue resolution.
- Create and improve documentation for accounting processes and controls.
- Perform period-end analysis, including budget versus actual and management discussion analysis.
- Support and coordinate annual financial statement audits.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of accounting systems and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- CPA or progress toward certification strongly preferred.
- 4 to 6 years of relevant accounting experience contributing to a high-performing operational accounting team.
- Experience in solar development or construction industry desired.
- Understanding of GAAP and management accounting.
- Experience managing material and supply inventory, including accounting, reporting, and transaction processing.
- Experience reviewing debt documents, accounting for debt and accrued interest, creating and maintaining debt roll forwards, and reconciling debt.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis.
- Experience with contributing to financial statement audits.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite.
- High proficiency in Office 365 skills.
- Demonstrated ability to document, maintain, and improve accounting processes and controls.
- Experience driving efficiency, operational automation, and standardization of processes.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Experience partnering with procurement, operations, and other teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a change mindset and the desire to proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and adapt to evolving business needs.
- Proactive and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly communicate problems and identify possible resolutions.
- Proven ability to manage workload independently and prioritize deadlines with competing priorities.
- High degree of ownership and accountability.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with a team-oriented approach to work, contributing to a supportive, collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to operate comfortably in hybrid, remote, and in-person team environments.
- Must have a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and a focus on getting the job done right.
