Job Description
The Civil Project Engineer is responsible for designing and managing site civil features for utility-scale and distributed solar energy projects, ensuring compliance with permits and regulations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize project layouts and site development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design civil features for large-scale solar facilities, including grading, access roads, and support structures.
- Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to optimize array layouts considering site constraints.
- Prepare and maintain construction plans, AutoCAD templates, and standards.
- Review geotechnical and wetland reports to support cost-effective solar deployment.
- Produce cut-fill plans and quantities to ensure proper mounting system slopes and foundation efficiency.
- Develop and manage stormwater pollution prevention, erosion, and dust control plans.
- Interpret project documentation to ensure compliance with permits and site requirements.
- Research and recommend solutions to meet DOT, utility, stormwater, and erosion control standards.
- Support project design reviews and investment presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- At least 3 years of Civil Engineering experience.
- EIT Certification with a preference for candidates who are pursuing a Professional Engineering license.
- Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD.
- Experience with Google Earth or other mapping GIS tools, as well as the use of online and public resources such as federal, state, and county databases.
- Ability to perform site grading and drainage calculations, prepare plans, conduct site hydrology calculations, and develop draft reports for review before final submittals.
- Must have an active driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and be able to travel frequently, up to 1-2 weeks per month or about 20% of working time, to access sites of varying terrain.
