Job Description
A Senior Staff Safety Standards Engineer at Nuro is responsible for developing and maintaining safety compliance processes for autonomous vehicles, ensuring adherence to industry safety standards, and supporting safety certification efforts across cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and operationalize compliance with AV safety standards and best practices.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure safety standards are integrated into development and testing processes.
- Serve as subject matter expert on industry safety standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF, and others.
- Create and socialize safety documentation, processes, templates, and guidelines aligned with industry standards.
- Train engineering and validation teams on safety standards and their interpretations.
- Ensure traceability from system requirements to safety case evidence.
- Support external certification and regulatory audits.
- Monitor industry trends and update safety practices to align with evolving standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering discipline or related field, with 5-8 years of experience in safety-critical domains.
- Deep knowledge of ISO 26262, SOTIF, and adjacent standards.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional compliance in a hardware software product environment.
- Experience with safety argumentation, safety cases, and V V (verification and validation) integration.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for AV industry safety standards ISO 8800, 5802, 9001, 26262, SOTIF, etc.
- Develop, maintain, and socialize internal processes, templates, and guidelines for safety documentation, ensuring internal processes map to industry standards.
- Train engineering and V V teams on current interpretations of standards.
- Work with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into actionable development and test artifacts.
- Ensure traceability from system requirements through to safety case arguments and evidence.
- Support external certification or regulatory audits as needed.
- Advise on updates and improvements to align with evolving standards and regulatory expectations.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging best practices in AV safety.
