Job Description
A temporary full-time role operating autonomous test vehicles, responsible for driving, data collection, troubleshooting, vehicle maintenance, and engaging with the public, to support the development and training of self-driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous test vehicles in manual and autonomous modes under diverse traffic conditions
- Collect and provide detailed feedback on data from vehicle operations to engineering teams
- Troubleshoot operational issues in real time and collaborate with dispatch to resolve them
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks
- Educate the public about autonomous vehicle technologies and behaviors
- Conduct high-profile ridealongs for company leadership and stakeholders while ensuring safety and professionalism
- Monitor onboard safety and navigational systems, maintaining situational awareness
Requirements
- Possession of a current valid California driver’s license and having been in possession of a US license for at least 3 years.
- Ability to reliably work 5 days a week on one of the specified shifts: Morning 6:00am-2:30pm PT (Tue - Sat or Sun - Thu), Afternoon/Evening 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Tue - Sat or Sun - Thu), or Overnight 10:00pm-6:30am PT (Wed - Sun).
- Ability to operate a vehicle in manual and autonomous mode for up to 8 hours per day in diverse traffic conditions while adhering to proper safety and operational driving procedures.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Ability to perform daily vehicle inspection checks before and after missions.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, including washing vehicles and putting air in tires.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues in real time and collaborate with Mission Operations dispatch team to resolve issues and meet mileage collection targets.
- Ability to interact with members of the public to educate them on autonomous vehicle technologies and behaviors.
- Ability to serve as a company ambassador by conducting high-profile ridealongs for senior leadership, stakeholders, investors, and engineers, demonstrating professionalism and safety.
- Ability to monitor onboard safety and navigational systems while maintaining constant situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Physical ability to sit for 3 to 4 hours at a time in an enclosed vehicle for up to 8 hours per day, with the capacity to bend, squat, stretch, and lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
- Physical ability to perform side and up/down head, neck, back, and shoulder movements necessary to operate a vehicle safely.
- Physical ability to operate foot pedals and hold/grasp with hands during vehicle operation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate comfortably through online collaboration platforms such as Slack and Google Meet.
- Strong problem-solving skills, remaining calm and resourceful under pressure to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Strong collaboration and time management skills, with the ability to work independently or in small groups without direct supervision.
- Self-driven and goal-oriented, with the ability to adapt to frequent changes and evolving conditions.
- Proven record of reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
