Job Description
The Senior Interconnection Engineer at Nexamp is responsible for managing utility interconnection projects, providing technical expertise on standards and documentation, supporting project development and optimization, and collaborating with internal teams to facilitate the integration of renewable energy systems into the grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage utility interconnection applications from submission to project closeout.
- Perform detailed review, analysis, and interpretation of technical documentation and utility reports.
- Provide expert technical advice during interconnection study reviews and recommend outcomes.
- Prepare interconnection cost estimates and conduct hosting capacity analyses.
- Collaborate with project managers on value engineering and cost optimization.
- Support negotiations and resolve disputes related to project timelines and costs.
- Participate in technical project closures, including site visits and witness testing.
- Lead technical assessments to identify and resolve interconnection challenges in specific regions.
- Review project designs and diagrams for utility compliance and effective grounding.
- Respond to RFIs during active construction projects.
- Guide utility navigation and support utility-related change management.
- Mentor and share expertise with other Interconnection Engineers.
Requirements
- 3 years of relevant experience with a utility, solar developer, Regional Transmission Organization, or consultancy, focusing on technical aspects of interconnection or interconnection-related activities and issues.
- Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other standards relevant to the industry.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Working knowledge in AutoCAD software.
- Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Moderate proficiency with Microsoft collaboration tools such as Salesforce, Teams, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- EIT Certification.
