Job Description

The Junior Control Room Operator monitors and manages the real-time operations of solar and battery energy assets, ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized performance through troubleshooting, alarm management, and stakeholder communication within a 24/7 operations center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor real-time performance of solar and battery energy storage assets using monitoring tools and SOPs
  • Identify, acknowledge, analyze, and prioritize alarms and alerts, escalating critical issues as needed
  • Perform basic remote troubleshooting and control actions within SOP guidelines
  • Communicate with stakeholders including customers, utilities, vendors, and internal teams to coordinate issue resolution
  • Manage and triage operations email inbox, routing and escalating messages according to SOPs
  • Maintain accurate logs of outages, events, and resolutions for reporting and analysis
  • Optimize monitoring practices, alarm configurations, and SOPs to improve safety and asset performance

Requirements

  • 0 to 2 years of related experience in a technical, operations, control room, utility, or similar environment.
  • High school diploma, with a preference for some post high school education, vocational or tech school.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work an 8-hour shift between the hours of 6am-10pm ET, which will be determined upon hire.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical terms such as voltage, current, power, and energy.
  • Ability to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Responds to alarms and events with a solution-oriented, service-first mindset, prioritizing safety, uptime, and contractual obligations.
  • Uses SOPs, monitoring tools, and basic electrical knowledge to diagnose issues, perform basic remote troubleshooting, and recommend next steps.
  • Maintains detailed records that support root cause analysis and process improvements.
  • Comfortable working through repetitive tasks with great attention to detail.
  • Computer competency with Microsoft Office tools including Word and Excel.
  • Commitment to Nexamp’s mission and a passion for solving climate crisis issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond the organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and apply that knowledge to inform business decisions.
