Job Description
A Backend Engineer at Loft Orbital will develop and maintain backend microservices that enable command, monitoring, and automation of satellite operations, working closely with cross-disciplinary teams to support safe and reliable on-orbit missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and scale backend microservices for satellite command, monitoring, and automation
- Develop systems that translate high-level intent into safe, reliable on-orbit operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including backend, flight software, embedded systems, test, and satellite operations
- Debug and troubleshoot live satellite missions
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of mission control systems
Requirements
- Experience in building and scaling microservices that sit between ground and flight software, turning high-level intent into safe, reliable on-orbit operations.
- Ability to work across multiple satellite platforms and collaborate closely with backend, flight software, embedded systems, test, and satellite operations teams.
- Hands-on engineering experience involving both building new systems and debugging live missions.
- Proficiency in writing and deploying backend systems that directly control satellites.
- Willingness to participate in SatDevOps training and use tools to operate spacecraft.
