Job Description
The UK Design Director Principal Engineer will oversee the integration and regulatory approval of a micro pressurised water reactor design, ensuring safety compliance and facilitating rapid deployment of passively safe nuclear energy in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the design of the PWR-20 reactor meets UK regulatory requirements and standards.
- Review and formally accept US-developed designs into the UK regulatory framework.
- Collaborate with the US engineering team to problem-solve and adapt designs for UK deployment.
- Drive rapid deployment of passively safe nuclear energy in the UK.
- Balance safety, regulatory compliance, pragmatism, and agility in design and deployment processes.
Requirements
- The individual must be a hands-on engineer with problem-solving skills.
- The candidate must have a strong understanding of safety and regulatory compliance related to nuclear energy.
- The candidate must be able to review and formally accept the design developed in the US into the UK regulatory framework.
- The candidate must be capable of balancing safety and regulatory compliance with pragmatism and agility to drive rapid deployment of passively safe nuclear energy in the UK.
- The candidate must have experience working with or understanding the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA) requirements.
- The candidate must be able to work as part of the UK Design Authority to ensure the design meets all expectations of the ONR and EA.
- The candidate must have the ability to minimize design iteration and enable rapid progress towards licensable, operable units.
