Job Description
The UK Design Director Principal Engineer will oversee the integration and regulatory approval of a micro pressurised water reactor design, ensuring safety compliance and facilitating rapid deployment of passively safe nuclear energy in the UK through hands-on engineering and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the design of the PWR-20 reactor meets UK regulatory requirements and standards.
- Review and formally accept US-developed designs into the UK regulatory framework.
- Collaborate with the US engineering team to problem-solve and adapt designs for UK deployment.
- Drive rapid deployment of passively safe nuclear energy in the UK.
- Balance safety, regulatory compliance, and pragmatic engineering solutions to minimize design iterations.
Requirements
- The individual must be a hands-on engineer with problem-solving skills.
- The candidate must have a strong understanding of safety and regulatory compliance related to nuclear energy.
- The candidate must be able to review and formally accept the design developed in the US into the UK regulatory framework.
- The candidate must be capable of minimizing design iteration and enabling rapid progress towards licensable, operable units.
- The candidate must be able to work effectively with the predominantly US engineering team.
- The candidate must be able to balance safety and regulatory compliance with pragmatism and agility.
- Previous experience in the nuclear industry is highly valued but not essential.
