Job Description

The Deputy Director will lead a campaign to develop and promote a green fertilizer industry in California, focusing on policy advocacy, coalition building, industry assessment, and project development to support climate, justice, and economic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of a campaign to promote green fertilizer industry transformation in California.
Build and maintain a coalition of labor, community, farmers, and industry stakeholders aligned with campaign goals.
Assess industry landscape, identify key players and gaps, and engage with industry leaders and policymakers.
Develop policy platform and advocate for policies to phase out fossil-based fertilizer with government officials and stakeholders.
Research and analyze the economic and environmental aspects of green fertilizer, including cost structures, job creation, and climate benefits.
Manage pilot projects to demonstrate the viability of green fertilizer solutions.

Requirements

At least 10 years of increasing responsibility in the field, with a proven campaigning and coalition-building track record.
Background in policy development, organizing, or leadership within advocacy or movement spaces.
Experience designing policy campaigns and using tools like power mapping, strategy charts, and narrative development.
Strong familiarity with how state and local agencies and venues function.
Demonstrated relationship-building, including with grassroots groups, labor, environmental justice organizations, policymakers, and other key players in California.
Proven track record of delivering policy wins and moving ideas from strategy through implementation.
Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple conflicting priorities.
Cultural competency and emotional intelligence, demonstrated by experience leading multicultural teams and building alignment across divergent viewpoints.
