Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's box trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect route data to support autonomous technology development, and maintain safety and customer service standards in the Greater Toronto Region.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate class 3-7 delivery vehicles manually on assigned routes
- Collect route data to support the development of autonomous driving technology
- Ensure timely delivery of goods while maintaining safety and cargo integrity
- Assist with loading and unloading customer goods using appropriate equipment
- Perform routine vehicle checks to ensure operational safety
- Update dispatch team on route and shift status
- Collaborate with teams to follow delivery procedures and safety standards
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years experience operating box straight trucks up to 26-35 ft long in North America (US or CN) with a valid AZ through DZ driver’s license
- Insurability by our underwriting, including a clean driving record (personal and professional) and passing a background check
- Ability to use smartphone applications and willingness to provide your mobile device
- Physical ability to perform tasks including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing a ladder, and operating a manual pallet jack with up to 400 lbs. (181 kg) of goods and material
- Willingness to work flexible hours on both weekdays and weekends
- Ability to manually drive Class 3-7 less than 33,001 pound GVWR, with or without air brakes, in manual modes while ensuring safety of other drivers, operators, the public, and the vehicle
- Ability to manually operate the vehicle on assigned, consistent routes to gather route data in support of future autonomous operations
- Experience assisting with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, handbombing, etc.
- Ability to perform daily routine checks to ensure operation and safety of trucks, including monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, hose connections, etc.
- Ability to perform ad-hoc projects such as truck delivery to new locations, testing, and installing new equipment
- Ability to learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards
- Customer relationship management experience
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
