The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's class 3-7 trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect data to support autonomous driving technology development, and maintain safety and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate Class 3-7 delivery vehicles manually on assigned routes.
Ensure timely delivery of goods to pick-up and drop-off locations.
Collect route data to support the development of autonomous driving technology.
Assist with loading and unloading goods using appropriate equipment.
Perform routine safety checks and vehicle maintenance tasks.
Update dispatch team on route and shift status.
Follow standard operating procedures and safety standards.
Requirements
Possesses a valid CDL with 3 years of driving experience or is a non-CDL candidate encouraged to apply, with a clean driving record and successful passing of background and drug screenings.
Demonstrates the ability to comfortably operate box trucks 26-30 feet, with or without a refrigerated unit.
Displays initiative, proactivity, and a strong focus on detail and safety.
Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively, while also thriving in independent work settings.
Is tech-savvy and adaptable to varied shift schedules, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
Has experience in safe, reliable operation of class 3-7 box truck delivery vehicles in manual modes.
Can manually drive the vehicles on assigned, consistent routes to gather route data supporting future autonomous operations.
Ensures vehicles arrive at pick-up and drop-off locations on time and the integrity of goods is retained on each journey.
Assists with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, handbombing, etc.
Performs daily routine checks of trucks, including monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, hose connections, and ensuring operation and safety of trucks.
Updates the dispatch team on shift and route status.
Follows company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensures compliance with safe operations standards.
Participates in ad-hoc projects such as truck delivery to new locations, testing, and installing new equipment.
Works in shifts typically beginning at 2:00 AM and running 8 to 12 hours, with weekly hours expected to be 40-45 hours, across all 7 days.
Operates in a role focused solely on driving, with no touch freight responsibilities, as loading and unloading are handled by others.
