Job Description

The Senior Staff Vehicle Harness Engineer at Gatik is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating power and signal distribution systems for autonomous vehicles, collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers from concept to production to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify vehicle power and signal distribution harnesses from concept to production
  • Create engineering requirements, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for harness systems
  • Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to develop prototypes and production vehicles
  • Provide technical expertise on vehicle communication standards and electrical systems
  • Mentor junior engineers on harness design principles and best practices

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline, with MS preferred
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with vehicle harnesses
  • Experience in delivering a system to production, from inception to production
  • Experience in the Automotive, Truck Transportation, and Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry
  • Ability to create engineering specifications including requirements, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for vehicle harnesses
  • Ability to size and select appropriate cables, connectors, and fuses
  • Ability to design mechanical components supporting the completion of the deliverable, such as brackets, housings, or pass-throughs
  • Proficiency with CAD and/or drawing software, with SolidWorks preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Strong computer skills with programming and scripting experience (preferred)
  • Experience with advanced vehicle communication standards and requirements such as GMSL, Automotive Ethernet, CAN, CAN-FD, low voltage high power applications
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members to complete system specifications and fill gaps as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with suppliers and vendors to build prototype and production vehicles
  • Ability to develop and refine tools and methods currently leveraged by the team
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers on principles of power and signal distribution and best practices
