Job Description
The Senior Staff Vehicle Harness Engineer at Gatik is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating power and signal distribution systems for autonomous vehicles, collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers from concept to production to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and specify vehicle power and signal distribution harnesses from concept to production
- Create engineering requirements, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for harness systems
- Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to develop prototypes and production vehicles
- Provide technical expertise on vehicle communication standards and electrical systems
- Mentor junior engineers on harness design principles and best practices
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline, with MS preferred
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with vehicle harnesses
- Experience in delivering a system to production, from inception to production
- Experience in the Automotive, Truck Transportation, and Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry
- Ability to create engineering specifications including requirements, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for vehicle harnesses
- Ability to size and select appropriate cables, connectors, and fuses
- Ability to design mechanical components supporting the completion of the deliverable, such as brackets, housings, or pass-throughs
- Proficiency with CAD and/or drawing software, with SolidWorks preferred
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Strong computer skills with programming and scripting experience (preferred)
- Experience with advanced vehicle communication standards and requirements such as GMSL, Automotive Ethernet, CAN, CAN-FD, low voltage high power applications
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members to complete system specifications and fill gaps as needed
- Ability to collaborate with suppliers and vendors to build prototype and production vehicles
- Ability to develop and refine tools and methods currently leveraged by the team
- Ability to mentor junior engineers on principles of power and signal distribution and best practices
