Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator at Gatik is responsible for safely operating and maintaining autonomous Class 7 trucks, ensuring timely deliveries, providing customer service, and assisting with vehicle data collection and performance feedback to improve autonomous driving systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Class 7 autonomous trucks in both autonomous and manual modes to ensure safe deliveries.
- Drive vehicles manually initially, then transition to autonomous operation.
- Ensure timely delivery and maintain the integrity of goods during each journey.
- Assist with loading and unloading cargo using tools like pallet jacks, carts, dollies, and lift gates.
- Perform daily safety and readiness checks on trucks, including fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Record and review route and operational data using spreadsheets and business applications.
- Provide customer service and act as the face of Gatik during deliveries.
- Follow pickup and drop-off procedures on each route.
- Contribute feedback to operations and engineering teams to improve vehicle performance.
- Support special projects such as delivering trucks to new locations or testing new equipment.
Requirements
- A valid Class A CDL driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- A clean background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record.
- Previous experience in customer relationship management.
- Experience operating box trucks up to 35 feet long.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- Ability to perform tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.
- Safely operate a Class 6 box truck in any weather and at any time of day or night during a 12-hour shift.
- Lift and carry boxes up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs (46 kg).
- Perform physical tasks like bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, squatting, and using tools.
- Use equipment like wheel chocks weighing about 40 lbs and pallet jacks to maneuver loads up to 2,000 lbs (910 kg).
- Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hat, and gloves.
