Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator at Gatik is responsible for safely operating and managing autonomous and manual Class 7 trucks for middle-mile logistics, ensuring timely deliveries, maintaining vehicle safety, and providing feedback to improve vehicle performance in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Class 7 autonomous trucks in both autonomous and manual modes to ensure safe deliveries.
- Manage loading and unloading of goods using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Maintain communication with dispatch team regarding route and shift status.
- Record and review operational data using spreadsheets and business applications.
- Perform daily safety checks on vehicles, including fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Assist with special projects such as relocating trucks or testing new equipment.
- Provide feedback to operations and engineering teams to improve vehicle performance.
- Follow pickup and drop-off procedures to ensure timely and secure deliveries.
Requirements
- A valid Class A CDL driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- A clean background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record.
- Previous experience in customer relationship management.
- Experience operating box trucks up to 35 feet long.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
- A meticulous, organized, and proactive mindset.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A good mechanical aptitude and basic mechanical skills.
- Automotive technician experience preferred.
- Ability to perform tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.
- Safely operate a Class 6 box truck in any weather and at any time of day or night during a 12-hour shift.
- Lift and carry boxes up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Perform physical tasks like bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, squatting, and using tools.
- Use equipment like wheel chocks weighing about 40 lbs and pallet jacks to maneuver loads up to 2,000 lbs.
- Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hat, and gloves.
