Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating Gatik's box trucks on designated routes to ensure timely deliveries, collect route data to support autonomous driving technology development, and maintain safety and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate class 3-7 delivery vehicles manually to ensure on-time deliveries and safety.
- Drive assigned routes to collect data supporting the development of autonomous driving technology.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods securely using appropriate equipment.
- Perform routine checks on vehicles to ensure operational safety and maintenance.
- Update dispatch team on route status and delivery progress.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety standards during vehicle operation.
Requirements
- Possesses a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with 3 years of driving experience or is a non-CDL candidate encouraged to apply, with a clean driving record and successful passing of background and drug screenings.
- Comfortable operating box trucks measuring 26 to 30 feet, with or without a refrigerated unit.
- Demonstrates initiative, proactivity, and a strong focus on detail and safety.
- Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively, while also thriving in independent work settings.
- Tech-savvy and adaptable to varied shift schedules, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
- Able to safely operate vehicles in manual mode to ensure safe, reliable operation of class 3-7 box truck delivery vehicles, maintaining safety for other drivers, operators, the public, and the vehicle.
- Able to manually drive assigned, consistent routes to gather route data supporting future autonomous operations.
- Able to assist with safe, secure loading and unloading of customer goods using equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, dollies, lift gates, and handbombing.
- Capable of updating the dispatch team on shift and route status.
- Able to perform daily routine checks on trucks, including monitoring fluid levels, tire pressure, hose connections, and ensuring operation and safety of trucks.
- Able to perform ad-hoc projects such as truck delivery to new locations, testing, or installing new equipment.
- Able to learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards.
