Job Description

The Director of Business Development at EnergyHub is responsible for identifying and driving new market and product opportunities, building strategic relationships, validating business concepts, and supporting the company's expansion into emerging energy markets within a SaaS and IoT environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with prospective customers, partners, and industry leaders to gather market insights and identify emerging trends.
  • Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to identify, shape, and prioritize new solution areas aligned with company strengths.
  • Develop expertise in new markets and serve as an internal resource on market dynamics and customer needs.
  • Assess and validate the business potential of new ideas through cross-functional collaboration and independent analysis.
  • Define functional and market requirements for new opportunities in partnership with product teams.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of new opportunities, leveraging networks to secure early pilot customers.
  • Coordinate with teams to conceptualize and launch pilot projects for new business concepts.
  • Drive business opportunities independently, close deals, and generate recurring revenue in a SaaS environment.
  • Develop market-leading customer engagement propositions and support organizational upskilling.
  • Negotiate legal and pricing terms with partners and customers.

Requirements

  • Proactively and independently drive business opportunities, close deals, and generate recurring revenue in a SaaS environment.
  • Bring knowledge of grid and utility markets, including grid edge technologies such as energy efficiency (EE), demand response (DR), storage, and electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Assess product fit against customer needs through discovery and qualification of new business opportunities.
  • Develop market leading customer engagement propositions, RFIs, RFPs, delivery plans, and support organizational upskilling.
  • Take a hands-on role in legal and pricing negotiations.
  • Build and sustain strong partner and customer relationships.
  • Inspire confidence among internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Build new initiatives from zero through launch.
  • Have an entrepreneurial, resourceful, and collaborative mindset.
  • Possess strategic vision to connect external market trends with internal product and business opportunities.
  • Demonstrate strong networking and communication skills that build trust across engineers, operators, and executives.
  • Be comfortable with ambiguity and a proactive, self-starter approach to complex, open-ended problems.
  • Work seamlessly across functions, bridging external partners with Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams.
  • Communicate effectively at both business and technical levels with diverse stakeholders.
  • Possess strong risk management and negotiation skills that balance competing priorities.
  • Maintain a detail-oriented, organized approach to relationship management and execution.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in parallel.
  • Have a deep passion for transforming how energy is used on the electric grid.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or related roles within SaaS or energy markets.
  • Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (implied by professional experience, though not explicitly stated).
