Job Description

The role involves managing consumer protection and complaint resolution for solar energy programs, particularly Illinois Shines, by assisting consumers, mediating disputes, and ensuring program compliance to support the adoption of distributed solar energy and promote a fair clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist consumers with complaints related to the Illinois Shines solar incentive program and facilitate resolution with solar companies
  • Identify and suggest improvements to consumer protections within the program
  • Document, categorize, and report complaints and disciplinary actions
  • Draft disciplinary and pre-disciplinary letters to vendors and entities violating program requirements
  • Conduct informal mediations between consumers and program entities or unregistered entities
  • Update and maintain the public-facing Consumer Protection Database
  • Provide educational materials and contribute to workshops on consumer protection topics
  • Attend and participate in internal, client, and department meetings
  • Manage or perform special projects related to consumer protection issues

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, complaint handling, and or solar energy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle multiple cases
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office Office365, SharePoint, and OneNote
  • Ability to work as a member of a high-performing team to help address complaints by consumers participating in the Illinois Shines program
  • Ability to work with consumers both telephonically and via email on their complaints and help facilitate resolution of those complaints with the consumer’s solar companies
  • Ability to document and categorize complaints received
  • Ability to draft disciplinary-related letters to vendors alleged to have violated Program requirements
  • Ability to conduct informal mediation with Program entities, unregistered entities, and consumers related to alleged Program violations
  • Ability to timely draft pre-disciplinary and disciplinary-related letters to entities alleged to have violated Program requirements, consistent with Disciplinary Action SOP, Illinois Shines Style Guide, and related documents
  • Ability to update the public-facing Consumer Protection Database
  • Ability to follow established SOPs for complaint resolution, disciplinary action, and other processes, including communicating directly with solar vendors and customers
  • Ability to document statistics contributing to disciplinary and complaint reporting
  • Ability to provide educational materials related to consumer protection requirements and best practices for vendors participating in Illinois Shines
  • Ability to contribute to educational workshops on consumer protection topics such as marketing best practices and Program requirements
  • Willingness to attend and actively participate in regular internal and client meetings, as well as other department and company-wide meetings as scheduled
  • Ability to perform and/or manage special projects related to consumer protection issues, as assigned
  • Proficiency in Spanish, including written communication (desired but not mandatory)
  • Experience with Salesforce (desired but not mandatory)
  • Complaint handling experience within the solar energy industry (desired but not mandatory)
  • Experience with a renewable energy credit program (desired but not mandatory)
  • Proficiency in using AI tools during interviews is prohibited

Salary range of $69,000 to $79,000 with a target of $79,000 based on experience and qualifications
