Job Description

The role involves managing consumer protection and complaint resolution for Illinois Shines, a solar incentive program, by assisting consumers, mediating disputes with vendors, and supporting program compliance to promote the adoption of solar energy and ensure consumer rights are protected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist consumers with complaints related to the Illinois Shines solar incentive program and facilitate resolution with solar companies
  • Identify ways to enhance consumer protections within the program
  • Document, categorize, and report complaints and disciplinary actions
  • Draft disciplinary and pre-disciplinary letters to vendors and entities violating program requirements
  • Conduct informal mediations between consumers and program entities
  • Update and maintain the public-facing Consumer Protection Database
  • Provide educational materials and contribute to workshops on consumer protection topics
  • Participate in internal and client meetings and support special projects related to consumer protection

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, complaint handling, and or solar energy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle multiple cases.
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Office Office365, SharePoint, and OneNote.
  • Ability to work as a member of a high-performing team to help address complaints by consumers participating in the Illinois Shines program.
  • Ability to work with consumers both telephonically and via email on their complaints and help facilitate resolution of those complaints with the consumer’s solar companies.
  • Ability to document and categorize complaints received.
  • Ability to draft disciplinary-related letters to vendors alleged to have violated Program requirements.
  • Ability to conduct informal mediation with Program entities, unregistered entities, and consumers related to alleged Program violations.
  • Ability to update the public-facing Consumer Protection Database.
  • Follow established SOPs for complaint resolution, disciplinary action, and other processes, including communicating directly with solar vendors and customers.
  • Document statistics contributing to disciplinary and complaint reporting.
  • Provide educational materials related to consumer protection requirements and best practices for vendors participating in Illinois Shines.
  • Contribute to educational workshops on consumer protection topics such as marketing best practices and Program requirements.
  • Attend and actively participate in regular internal and client meetings, as well as other department and company-wide meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform and/or manage special projects related to consumer protection issues, as assigned.

Salary range of $69,000 to $79,000 with a target compensation of $79,000 based on experience and qualifications
