Job Description
A strategic leadership role overseeing the software engineering department at Energy Solutions, responsible for managing multiple teams, guiding software architecture and development practices, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions that support energy efficiency and environmental impact initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple software engineering teams, fostering a culture of accountability and psychological safety.
- Allocate engineering resources effectively between client projects and internal platform development.
- Establish and enforce software architecture standards, ensuring scalable, modular, and high-performance solutions.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, and code quality standards.
- Collaborate with data teams and application owners to ensure high-quality data production and seamless system integration.
- Guide the migration of legacy systems and adoption of new technologies and frameworks.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle, ensuring quality, security, and compliance standards are met.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure timely, within-budget delivery of software solutions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years in software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a Director or Senior Management role leading teams of 25 or more people.
- Deep roots in the Python ecosystem, with experience building complex applications using Django.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and cloud infrastructure platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Proven ability to influence partners while mentoring and maturing a software engineering team, including supervisors, with effective delegation and communication skills.
- Exceptional ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and clients.
- Experience managing remote or distributed engineering teams.
- Experience working in a Professional Services Consultancy environment is highly preferred.
- Experience shipping SaaS or PaaS products.
- Ability to oversee the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), ensuring standards for code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Ability to establish and enforce security controls, compliance standards, and data protection protocols across all client projects.
- Ability to establish and track engineering metrics to drive process improvements, increase velocity, and reduce technical debt.
- Experience collaborating with product owners, project managers, business systems analysts, and business partners to ensure timely and within-budget delivery of client projects, while managing stakeholder expectations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Hands-on or theoretical knowledge of Generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) integration in enterprise software (preferred).
- Compulsory background check, drug screening, and authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment, working onsite at least 1 day per week, with flexibility for the remainder of the week.
- Must reside within 40 miles of one of the specified office locations (Oakland, CA; Orange, CA; Portland, OR; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Boston, MA).
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of $145,000 to $170,000, with target compensation of $145,000 to $161,000 based on experience and qualifications
Hybrid work schedule, working onsite at least 1 day per week with flexibility for the remainder of the week
