Job Description
The Managing Consultant Transmission is responsible for leading strategic projects related to electric transmission, including planning, regulatory strategy, and stakeholder coordination, to support utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients in the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic engagements on key transmission issues for utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients.
- Structure problems collaboratively with in-house transmission experts and define analytical tasks for project teams.
- Own day-to-day client leadership and coordinate across cross-functional teams including transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Develop transmission opportunities, business cases, and prioritize portfolios.
- Formulate regional cost allocation strategies and regulatory approaches, including testimony drafting.
- Track KPIs and develop partnership strategies related to transmission projects.
- Guide organization structure and governance for transmission initiatives.
Requirements
- Subject matter depth in electric transmission, including knowledge of ISO RTO transmission planning processes, interconnection and deliverability concepts, corridor right-of-way (ROW) and permitting basics, and capital planning.
- Fluency with management consulting skills such as structuring ambiguous problems, choosing an appropriate level of detail to answer questions within the available time, anticipating challenges, creating plans to mitigate risks, coaching team members on how to answer questions, and checking results and storylines based on industry experience.
- Ability to navigate tough client stakeholder dynamics with executive presence, align senior leaders, and drive decisions in high-stakes settings.
- Experience in leading strategic engagements on key transmission issues for utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients, including problem structuring, defining and checking analytical tasks, and owning day-to-day client leadership.
- Experience in coordinating across cross-functional client teams including transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Proven ability to develop transmission opportunity and business case development, portfolio prioritization, regional cost allocation, regulatory strategy and testimony drafting, KPI tracking, partnership strategy, and organization structure and governance.
- Availability to work full-time with an office schedule that includes hybrid work from one of the E3 offices or remote, with travel to local client sites as needed (0-10% travel).
- Ability to work for extended hours in front of a computer screen and conduct meetings via telephone and virtual platforms.
