Job Description
The Managing Consultant Transmission is responsible for leading strategic projects related to electric transmission, including planning, regulatory strategy, and stakeholder coordination, to support utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients in the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic engagements on key transmission issues for utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients.
- Structure and define analytical tasks in collaboration with in-house transmission experts.
- Own day-to-day client leadership and coordinate across cross-functional teams including transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Develop transmission opportunities, business cases, and portfolio prioritization strategies.
- Formulate regional cost allocation and regulatory strategies, including testimony drafting.
- Track KPIs and develop partnership strategies related to transmission projects.
- Assist in organization structure and governance related to transmission initiatives.
Requirements
- Subject matter depth in electric transmission, including ISO RTO transmission planning processes, interconnection and deliverability concepts, corridor right-of-way (ROW) and permitting basics, and capital planning.
- Fluency with management consulting skills such as structuring ambiguous problems, choosing a level of detail to answer questions within the available time, anticipating challenges, creating plans to mitigate risks, coaching team members, and checking results and storylines based on industry experience.
- Strong analytical dexterity or policy experience related to energy and electricity industry issues.
- Experience in owning and leading project work, including defining analytical tasks, providing day-to-day client leadership, and coordinating across cross-functional teams such as transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Ability to structure problems collaboratively with in-house transmission experts and define analytical tasks for project teams.
- Experience in developing transmission opportunity and business case development, portfolio prioritization, regional cost allocation, regulatory strategy and testimony drafting, KPI tracking, partnership strategy, and organization structure and governance.
- Excellent executive presence to navigate tough client stakeholder dynamics, align senior leaders, and drive decisions in high-stakes settings.
- Full-time availability with the ability to work extended hours in front of a computer and conduct meetings virtually or via telephone.
- Willingness to work in a hybrid or remote work environment, with the ability to work from an office at least 2-3 days per week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Travel availability of 0-10% for local client site visits, if required.
