Job Description
The role involves leading a high-velocity engineering team to develop and operationalize AI-powered geospatial products, transforming satellite imagery data into accessible insights for various high-stakes applications such as forensics and change detection.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a high-velocity engineering team to develop geospatial AI capabilities into a market-ready product.
- Build and oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and team development within the engineering squad.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and high performance among engineers.
- Design and iterate on team operating systems, including sprint cadences and testing processes, to support research-to-product transition.
- Collaborate with AI research teams to translate research models and workflows into production systems.
- Establish automated evaluation benchmarks to measure development progress and quality.
- Mentor and coach engineers to support their career growth and maintain team engagement.
- Partner with product and design teams to develop technical roadmaps and identify potential risks.
- Act as a cross-functional leader to ensure engineering efforts align with forensics and change detection use cases.
Requirements
- Six years of relevant experience in software engineering or related fields.
- Four years of experience leading software engineering teams, including founding or high-growth environments.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience and enthusiasm for leading AI engineering teams that have successfully elevated research prototypes into production-grade applications.
- Ability to manage conflict, deliver difficult feedback, and keep a team motivated through pivots in an early-stage product environment.
- Ability to identify process issues that slow down team velocity and implement necessary cultural or structural changes to restore productivity.
- Technical breadth to synthesize input from AI researchers and frontend experts to make sound architectural and personnel decisions, including identifying when to collaborate with research teams for model development.
- Pragmatic approach to development that avoids seeking perfection at the expense of delivering meaningful customer value.
- Impact-focused mindset, with the ability to build applications that enable users such as researchers, journalists, governments, and NGOs to explore the world using natural language and surface crucial insights.
- Experience with geospatial data or planetary-scale analytics (highly preferred).
