Job Description
The Director of Power Systems Engineering leads technical and strategic initiatives to support the transition to a flexible, decarbonized, and distributed electric grid, providing advisory services on grid modernization, distributed energy resources, and system planning while engaging in business development and client relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical and strategic engagements to support utility transition to a flexible, decarbonized, and distributed grid
- Develop and grow work in distributed planning, grid modernization strategy, and flexible load integration
- Support utility distribution planning teams by refining analytical frameworks and implementing advanced modeling tools
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams and develop trusted client relationships
- Contribute to business development, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships in power systems planning and engineering
Requirements
- Deep experience in grid modernization, distributed system planning, and DER (Distributed Energy Resources) integration, with the ability to lead technical and strategic engagements that help utilities and regulators transition to a more flexible, decarbonized, and distributed grid.
- Experience in developing and growing work in distributed planning, grid modernization strategy, and flexible load integration, including helping clients navigate the technical, operational, and regulatory challenges of electrification, distributed energy resources, and system planning reform.
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and deliver high-impact advisory services at the intersection of engineering, policy, and operations.
- Experience providing direct support for utility distribution planning teams, including refining analytical frameworks, implementing advanced modeling tools, and aligning planning practices with emerging regulatory expectations.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, thought leadership, and establishing strategic partnerships in power systems planning and engineering.
- Minimum of several years of relevant professional experience in power systems engineering, utility consulting, or related fields (implied by the seniority of the Director role).
- Ability to work full-time in a hybrid and flexible work environment, including working extended hours in front of a computer screen and conducting meetings virtually or via telephone.
- Availability to travel approximately 10-20% of the time as required for project needs.
- Educational background in engineering, energy systems, or a related technical field (implied by the technical nature of the role).
