Job Description

The Associate Director Transmission leads strategic engagements for utility transmission projects, overseeing end-to-end planning, development, and execution of transmission and substation initiatives while managing stakeholder coordination and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy engagements for utilities and transmission businesses.
  • Develop and execute end-to-end processes for transmission and substation project delivery.
  • Train and transition project work to client staff.
  • Guide clients in developing integrated transmission planning organizations.
  • Identify risks, bring structure to ambiguity, and drive projects with clarity and accountability.

Requirements

  • Deep experience in electric transmission project delivery, including subject matter expertise in bulk-system transmission and substation development.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to independently create and actualize work plans that are efficient and provide guidance to clients.
  • Experience leading strategy engagements for utilities and their transmission businesses, including developing and executing end-to-end processes for transmission and substation project delivery across multiple development models.
  • Proven ability to work with utilities, EPC contractors, owner’s engineers, and regulators, effectively aligning stakeholders and influencing decisions in high-stakes environments.
  • Ability to bring structure to ambiguity, proactively identify risks, and drive projects forward with clarity and accountability.
  • Experience working in complex, multi-party project environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder coordination skills, including working closely with clients and stakeholders to support project execution and business growth.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing, shaping, and developing a practice area or similar organizational unit.
  • Excellent communication skills to coach, provide feedback, and collaborate effectively with team members and clients.
  • Technical aptitude and deep subject matter expertise in electric transmission and related fields.
  • Attention to detail and a rigorous, quantitative approach to solution finding.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, including working from the office at least 2-3 days per week and conducting meetings virtually or on the telephone.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours in front of a computer screen.
  • Availability to travel occasionally, up to 10% of the time.
  • Educational background or experience that demonstrates a high level of technical and industry-specific knowledge relevant to electric transmission projects.
