Job Description
A senior geologist role focused on subsurface evaluation and regional mapping to identify and de-risk CO₂ storage opportunities across Canada, involving geological interpretation, site screening, and supporting CCS project development in sedimentary and hard rock systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct subsurface geological interpretation and modeling to evaluate CO₂ storage opportunities.
- Oversee regional geological mapping and screening to identify and prioritize potential storage sites across Canada.
- Evaluate and rank potential CO₂ storage sites through technical screening and uncertainty assessment.
- Apply geological expertise to assess storage capacity, fluid flow behavior, and containment mechanisms in various lithologies.
- Support drilling and subsurface data acquisition, including interpretation of core, logs, and datasets.
- Prepare and submit geological assessments and feasibility studies for CCS projects and hubs.
- Manage project timelines, costs, and deliverables ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Support internal geoscience activities and oversee subcontractors for environmental assessments and remediation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related discipline.
- Senior-level experience of at least 10 years, particularly in roles involving technical leadership, independent judgment, or advisory responsibility.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with core logging, core analysis, and subsurface data interpretation, in either sedimentary or hard rock environments.
- Working knowledge of sedimentary systems (e.g., carbonate and siliciclastic stratigraphy) and igneous and metamorphic rock systems, including experience relevant to CO₂ storage or mineralization.
- Proven experience in geological mapping, site screening or selection, and subsurface evaluation for energy, mining, environmental, or CCS-related projects.
- Experience supporting or managing large-scale geological studies, regional assessments, or multi-site evaluation programs.
- Exposure to industry-standard subsurface and geological software such as Petrel, GeoScout, Kingdom, Leapfrog, or equivalent tools used in sedimentary or hard rock workflows.
- Strong project coordination and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and interface with regulators, industry partners, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and passport, with willingness to travel as required for fieldwork, site visits, and project meetings.
