Job Description

The Manager of High Voltage Medium Voltage Engineering oversees the maintenance, reliability, and long-term health of high and medium voltage electrical systems across renewable energy assets, leading engineering teams, supporting operational and project activities, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the High Voltage Medium Voltage Engineering team and oversee the availability, reliability, and health of HV substations, gen-ties, and MV equipment.
  • Support operations during MV HV events and outages, including troubleshooting, fault analysis, switching, and restoration.
  • Manage substation asset health, including maintenance planning, risk evaluations, and equipment change management.
  • Develop standards, procedures, and workflows; support training and competency development for personnel.
  • Review and support construction, commissioning, and project design activities related to protection systems and substation upgrades.
  • Manage team resources, prioritize tasks, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align operational and strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, ISO, and regulatory standards through fault analysis, relay evaluation, and testing report reviews.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 2 to 6 years of experience in transmission, distribution, substation, or plant operations, or an associate degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8-10 years of experience in the same areas.
  • A minimum of five years managing people and leading complex projects.
  • Must understand electrical power generation, distribution, and possess a thorough knowledge of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) systems, including overhead, underground, and substation systems.
  • Must possess a good understanding of operating procedures, environmental and safety rules, and regulations, and first aid procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow technical instructions furnished in verbal, written, diagrammatic, and schedule formats.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, technical manuals, and test reports.
  • Must be able to maintain professional and positive relationships with owners, customers, internal contractors, and external contractors.
  • Must have the ability to perform fundamental training of operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Must be able to evaluate protective relays to troubleshoot and identify incident causes, with expertise in SEL, GE relays, ETAP, fault analysis, Bazefield, and historian systems.
  • Strong knowledge of NERC PRC standards.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license; Class B license required, Class A preferred.
  • Must be willing to work flexible work hours.
  • Clearway will not sponsor non-immigrant visas for this position (H-1B, TN, E-3, etc.).
