Job Description
The Manager of High Voltage Medium Voltage Engineering oversees the maintenance, reliability, and long-term health of high and medium voltage electrical systems across renewable energy assets, leading engineering teams, supporting operational and regulatory compliance, and providing technical expertise for projects and system troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the High Voltage Medium Voltage Engineering team to ensure the availability, reliability, and health of high voltage substations, gen-ties, and medium voltage equipment.
- Support operations during MV HV events and outages, including troubleshooting, fault analysis, switching, and system restoration.
- Oversee substation asset health management, including maintenance planning, risk evaluations, and end-of-life assessments.
- Develop standards, procedures, and workflows; support training and competency development for plant personnel.
- Review and support construction, commissioning, and repower projects, including protection studies and design reviews.
- Manage team resources, prioritize tasks, and mentor staff to align with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with NERC, PRC-005, and other regulatory standards through fault analysis and equipment testing review.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 2 to 6 years of experience in transmission, distribution, substation, or plant operations, or an associate degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8-10 years of experience in the same areas.
- A minimum of five years managing people and leading complex projects.
- Must understand electrical power generation, distribution, and possess a thorough knowledge of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) systems, including overhead, underground, and substation systems.
- Must possess a good understanding of operating procedures, environmental and safety rules, and regulations, and first aid procedures.
- Strong knowledge of electrical test equipment.
- Ability to interpret and follow technical instructions furnished in verbal, written, diagrammatic, and schedule formats.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, technical manuals, and test reports.
- Must be able to maintain professional and positive relationships with owners, customers, internal contractors, and external contractors.
- Must have the ability to perform fundamental training of operations and maintenance personnel.
- Must be able to evaluate protective relays to troubleshoot and identify incident causes, with expertise in SEL, GE relays, ETAP, fault analysis, Bazefield, and historian systems.
- Strong knowledge of NERC PRC standards.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; Class B required, Class A preferred.
- Must be able to work flexible work hours as required.
- Clearway will not sponsor non-immigrant visas for this position (H-1B, TN, E-3, etc.).
