Job Description
The Market Fundamentals Intern supports the development and automation of power price forecasting models by analyzing market data, improving data pipelines, and collaborating on research related to energy markets, with the goal of informing strategic investment and operational decisions in renewable and conventional energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Support power price forecasting through data collection, processing, and analysis
- Develop and refine datasets for fundamentals-based modeling of supply, demand, fuel prices, and system constraints
- Automate workflows by building scripts, tools, or dashboards to improve data accessibility and reduce manual effort
- Perform quality checks and validation of market data and model outputs
- Document workflows, assumptions, and code to ensure transparency and repeatability
- Collaborate with analysts and modelers on research related to market trends, policy changes, and system dynamics
Requirements
- Be a student completing a bachelor’s degree or starting a master’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Support the team’s price forecasting through data collection, processing, and analysis.
- Assist in developing and refining datasets used in fundamentals-based modeling of supply, demand, fuel prices, and system constraints.
- Contribute to automation initiatives, including building scripts, tools, or dashboards to reduce manual effort and improve data accessibility.
- Perform quality checks and validation of market data and model outputs.
- Document workflows, assumptions, and code to ensure transparency and repeatability.
- Collaborate with analysts and modelers to support ad hoc research into market trends, policy changes, and system dynamics.
- Support the development, automation, and enhancement of power price forecasting models.
- Possess strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Have experience with Python, R, or another programming language used for data analysis.
- Be able to work with large datasets and perform data cleaning, transformation, and visualization.
- Demonstrate curiosity about energy markets, renewable energy, or electricity system fundamentals.
- Have strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
