Job Description
The position involves providing expert economic and regulatory consulting services to utility clients in the energy sector, including advising on rate cases, utility transactions, and regulatory strategies, with opportunities for leadership, business development, and industry thought leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients in the regulated energy sector on issues related to utility regulation, rate cases, and infrastructure projects.
- Represent utilities and energy firms before regulators and support dispute resolution.
- Develop strategies to create value and reduce risk for clients in energy markets.
- Lead technical aspects of utility rate cases, proceedings, and regulatory docketed matters.
- Provide expert testimony and strategic advice on utility revenue requirements, cost of capital, rate design, and alternative regulation.
- Manage complex consulting projects independently, including team leadership and mentorship.
- Support business development efforts to grow the practice area.
Requirements
- More than 10 years of utility industry consulting experience, with proven team leadership skills and subject matter expertise in areas such as utility revenue requirements, cost of capital, cost of service, rate design, utility transactions, or regulatory strategy.
- Experience in project management involving all aspects of utility state and/or federal rate cases and similar docketed proceedings.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage consulting teams and complex assignments with limited oversight.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior staff.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant financial, economics, or business discipline is required.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field is strongly desired.
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex, technical concepts with impact.
- Experience as a testifying witness is considered an advantage but is not required.
- Familiarity with ratemaking proceedings, disputes, or other docketed matters.
- Comfort working in an unstructured environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
