Job Description

This internship offers hands-on experience in digital forensics, cybersecurity, and incident response, where interns assist with investigations, analyze digital evidence, and support security projects within a consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with security and privacy investigations related to data security breaches and fraud
  • Conduct forensic analysis of digital information using standard techniques and tools
  • Identify, research, and organize information to determine hacker activity and data theft
  • Defensibly collect digital evidence and maintain chain-of-custody documentation
  • Leverage programming and database skills to support forensic investigations and analysis
  • Share investigative findings and assist in drafting technical reports

Requirements

  • Candidates must be Bachelor’s or Master’s non-MBA degree candidates graduating December 2026 or Summer 2027 with a related academic focus in Cybersecurity, Computer Science and Engineering, Digital Forensics, Management Information Systems, or Security Information Systems or a related field.
  • Candidates must have a strong understanding of computer operating systems, software, and hardware.
  • Candidates must be able to conduct detailed forensic investigations and analyses of computers, networks, mobile devices, and removable media.
  • Candidates must have experience with conducting digital forensic analyses using commercial and open-source forensic tools, including file system forensics, memory analysis, and network analysis.
  • Candidates must have experience with conducting static and dynamic malware analyses in a lab environment and threat hunting in a live environment.
  • Candidates must understand proper evidence handling procedures and chain-of-custody.
  • Candidates must have experience with drafting technical and investigative reports and communicating technical findings.
  • Candidates must have experience with utilizing automation tools and scripts to expedite analyses.
  • Candidates must understand incident handling procedures, including preparation, identification, containment, eradication, and recovery to protect enterprise environments.
  • Candidates must have an understanding of common attack techniques used by adversaries on victim networks and how to leverage those techniques to stop further adversary activity.
  • Candidates with digital forensics incident response training and/or certifications such as SANS GIAC (GCIA, GCFA, GCFE, GNFA, GCCC, GREM), IACIS (CFCE, CIFR), Guidance Software EnCE are preferred but not required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a high level of initiative and leadership.
  • Candidates must have strong teamwork and collaboration capabilities.
  • Candidates must have excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
  • Candidates must show a clear and demonstrated interest in consulting through coursework, work experience, activities, or attendance at CRA recruiting events.
  • Candidates must submit a resume including current address, personal email, and telephone number.
  • Candidates must submit a cover letter describing their interest in CRA and how this role aligns with their goals, including any specific practice area or location preference.
  • Candidates must provide an unofficial transcript.
  • Candidates must be willing to work in a flexible work environment, spending approximately 3 to 4 days per week in the office, with specific days coordinated with their team or practice area.
  • Candidates must meet the legal and educational requirements for the internship position, including being enrolled in a relevant degree program and graduating by December 2026 or Summer 2027.
  • Candidates must be able to work in the specified geographic locations (Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Washington DC) if applying for roles in those locations.
  • Candidates must be able to work in the United States and meet any legal employment requirements.

Compensation/salary range: $30 - $36 per hour
