A Senior Design Researcher at Canonical will conduct user research, develop insights, and advocate for user needs to inform product development and organizational processes, supporting a data-informed and user-centered culture within a remote, globally distributed team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct user research to gather insights on user needs
Develop and communicate user insights across product areas
Support teams with research presentations and documentation
Promote and integrate a data-informed culture within the organization
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed user research into decision-making processes
Manage research operations infrastructure to enhance methodology accessibility and repeatability
Contribute to the development of User Science through training, resource creation, and outreach
Requirements
A complete academic track record from both high school and university, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field such as Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Engineering, or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path.
Deep research expertise with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies, including user interviews, usability testing, A/B testing, surveys, and data analysis.
Exceptional depth in either qualitative or quantitative research skills.
Strong technical curiosity and interest in open-source culture, with the ability to engage deeply with technical subjects and stakeholders.
Proficiency in visual design and/or information design, with the capability to translate complex data or ideas into strong, convincing visuals that make insights accessible and memorable.
A talent for storytelling and collaboration, with an outstanding ability to craft narratives that effectively explain research findings and resonate with diverse audiences.
Meticulous organization and archivist skills, with the ability to transform scattered findings or disparate processes into cohesive, structured knowledge systems.
A robust portfolio showcasing a range of user research and/or design projects that highlight the ability to derive actionable insights from research and directly influence product design and strategy or organizational change.
