Job Description
The Engineering Director at Canonical leads hardware enablement quality assurance and testing teams to ensure the stability and certification of Ubuntu across various hardware architectures, driving continuous improvement in Linux certification and collaborating with global teams and hardware partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement quality assurance and testing.
- Oversee the OEM QA Engineering activities, including quality planning, automation, manual testing, and bug triage.
- Develop and improve automated testing capabilities and ensure continuous quality and certification of hardware.
- Establish and implement engineering processes to enhance hardware testing, quality, and reliability.
- Collaborate with development teams to build efficient automated testing frameworks.
- Hire, develop, and mentor engineering managers and staff engineers to grow team capabilities.
- Set and measure performance benchmarks, indicators of team health, and productivity metrics.
- Represent the product and team to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Work with cross-functional teams to prioritize requests, plan roadmaps, and ensure timely delivery.
- Participate in leadership activities, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
Requirements
- Outstanding Linux based software engineering track record, preferably with low-level embedded experience.
- Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation.
- Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results.
- Leadership and a track record of developing and growing people.
- Organised and able to ensure your team delivers timely, high quality results.
- Management experience and the confidence to set high expectations.

- Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred.
