Job Description
The Engineering Director at Canonical leads and manages software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement, quality assurance, and testing for Ubuntu across various CPU architectures, ensuring continuous certification, performance, and reliability of hardware platforms in a global, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement, quality assurance, and testing.
- Develop and oversee quality planning strategies, including automated and manual testing of Ubuntu on various hardware architectures.
- Improve automated testing capabilities and ensure continuous quality and certification of hardware devices.
- Coordinate with development teams to build efficient testing processes and triage test results.
- Establish and enforce engineering processes to ensure high-quality deliverables and team productivity.
- Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers and staff engineers, fostering team growth and culture.
- Manage cross-team projects spanning multiple locations and time zones, including planning and scheduling testing activities.
- Represent the product and testing initiatives to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Collaborate with OEMs and hardware partners to ensure hardware certification and quality standards are met.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance hardware testing, quality, and reliability.
Requirements
- The candidate must have an outstanding Linux based software engineering track record, preferably with low-level embedded experience.
- The candidate must have an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about their alternative chosen path.
- The candidate must have confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation.
- The candidate must have a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results.
- The candidate must have demonstrated leadership and a track record of developing and growing people.

- The candidate must have professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
- The candidate must have experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred.

- The candidate must demonstrate professionalism when interacting with colleagues, partners, and community.

- The candidate must have the ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long.
