A senior mechanical engineer responsible for designing and overseeing plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical leadership, coordinating with clients and teams, and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems in large-scale buildings
Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines, including assisting with HVAC designs as needed
Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members
Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems
Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment
Interface with clients and project team members, including attending meetings and managing project budgets
Participate or lead value engineering sessions to improve design quality and efficiency
Conduct staff development activities, including work planning, scheduling, and budget management
Respond to RFIs and review change orders during construction document preparation
Represent the company in project activities, business development, and marketing efforts
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical design, plumbing, fire protection, or HVAC systems.
Ability to perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in specifying equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
Review and accept selective shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Interface effectively with clients and members of the design team, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding and focus on the project budget.
Participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
Respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Perform Revit BIM modeling of HVAC systems as necessary.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Must be a fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
LEED accreditation preferred.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Must be able to work independently with no oversight or guidance.
