Job Description

This position involves leading the design and technical oversight of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale construction projects across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and commercial buildings, with responsibilities in project management, client interaction, and team mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

Design and oversee complex ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems in large-scale buildings
Perform independent Mechanical discipline work, including assisting with HVAC designs as needed
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversee work of junior staff and designers
Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems
Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and pumps
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Participate in client and project team meetings, including OAC meetings, with a focus on project budget
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project design and efficiency
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of related experience in engineering or design roles.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) or Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Experience in performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Experience with Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases.
Ability to specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience preparing and reviewing construction documents, including responding to RFIs and change orders.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs of the site.
Ability to interface effectively with clients, design team members, and attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural and Engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to represent the company in project activities, direct project team members, and participate in business development and marketing activities.
Must be highly analytical and a critical thinker.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
