Job Description
This position involves leading the design and technical oversight of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, managing project teams, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and coordinating with clients and construction teams throughout project phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with HVAC designs as needed.
- Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
- Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
- Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and pumping equipment.
- Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Participate in value engineering sessions and recommend process improvements.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
- Attend and participate in construction meetings and interface with clients and project team members.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
- Experience in performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
- Experience assisting with HVAC designs as necessary.
- Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
- Experience directing the work of less experienced staff, including development and presentation of annual performance reviews.
- Experience serving in the QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
- Experience overseeing the use of engineering complexities related to the use of Energy Model software.
- Proficiency in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling of HVAC systems as necessary.
- Experience specifying equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
- Ability to review and accept selective shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience participating in or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural and Engineering teams.
- Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
- Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings.
- Experience representing a company in project activities and directing project team members.
- Ability to participate in business development and marketing activities.
- Willingness to serve on internal and/or professional committees as required.
- Physical ability to conduct site visits, which may require walking through construction sites.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
