This position involves leading the design and coordination of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical guidance to team members, overseeing project development from schematic to construction phases, and ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems in large-scale buildings
Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with HVAC designs as needed
Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members
Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems from schematic to construction phases
Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumps
Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Participate in value engineering sessions and recommend process improvements
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
Attend and participate in construction meetings and interface with clients and project team members
Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and assist in the preparation of construction documents
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Experience performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Experience assisting with HVAC designs as necessary.
Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience directing the work of less experienced staff, including development and presentation of annual performance reviews.
Experience serving in QAQC processes and as an independent reviewer.
Ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
Experience using engineering software complexities related to Energy Model software.
Proficiency in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling of HVAC systems as necessary.
Experience specifying equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
Ability to review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience participating in or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings.
Experience representing a company in project activities and directing activities of project team members.
Ability to participate in business development and marketing activities.
Willingness to serve on internal and/or professional committees as required.
Physical ability to conduct site visits, which may require walking through construction sites.
Must be a fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience engaging effectively with clients.
Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
