A senior mechanical engineering lead responsible for designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings across various sectors, providing technical leadership, project management, and client interface in a remote U.S. setting.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
Independently handle all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project requirements are met.
Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee technical quality of engineering work.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to designers and engineering staff.
Develop construction drawings using Revit BIM modeling from schematic design through construction administration.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Participate in project meetings, site visits, and observe construction progress.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings, including site walk-throughs.
Experience in directing activities of project team members and providing technical leadership.
Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
Physical ability to perform site visits that may require a walk-through of the site.
Must be fully qualified to perform work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work tasks.
